IMI #6 - Final Thoughts

· · · Comments

Because leftovers are sometimes the best...

Hey guys! We’ve made it to the last of our Instagram Marketing Installments!

In IMI #6, I will give you the final tips that I’ve picked up over the last couple of years. You don’t have to do all of them for results… but the more time and effort you put in, the more you get out of your Instagram marketing.

These are suggestions and techniques and strategies other people have learned through trial and error. Let their trial and error be your advantage! Use your judgement and get creative!

A Thousand Words = A Picture!

- Do not flood your store front with personal photos (pets, partners, extra-curricular activities) Yes, some are important so people can get to know you, but have a separate account for the rest. Remember, keep your storefront clean and professional.
 - No photo collages with over 4 or 5 photos; it’s just too much.

The Postman May Always Ring Twice, but Instagram Posts Ring Forever!

Before you post anything: T.H.I.N.K.

                                                T = is it thoughtful/true?
                                                H = is it helpful?
                                                 I = is it interesting/inspiring?
                                                N = is it necessary?
                                                K = is it kind?

And always ask: Does this help further my brand? If not, DO NOT POST!

  • Always try to look at it from a 3rd person perspective. Is this something that would catch my eye if I were scrolling? Even better: ask a friend to have a look before you post!
  • Try to post something every day (even if you delete it the next day).
Make genuine and thoughtful comments on other’s content. This establishes authenticity and real relationships with followers. Plus, you never know who you will meet in your daily interactions! A friend of a cousin of a friend?  Everything distills down to engagement. This is the KEY to reach with Instagram.
Instagram Stories are a great way to show day-to-day happenings and draw new clients in. Use them in a creative way to peak peoples’ interest. Even if being on camera is uncomfortable for you, you can always put photos and videos of the process, and direct viewers to your page for the final result. You can be shy and still get great content in Stories!
Search hashtags, popular local areas and businesses, and follow their followers! See someone that looks like your ideal client? Follow them. Engage with them. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain! Ever heard the term “Slide into their DM”? Well, it works! Slide into those DM’s and tell them you love their style and would love the opportunity to do their hair. Offer a discount or free gift for their first appointment.
Add a location to your photo. Use your salon’s location as well as surrounding business and places your ideal client hangs out. Your photos will show up when someone searches that location, so be creative and tag other local shops to reach new potential clients.
Make sure if your client has an Instagram that they are following you! It’s a great way to keep in touch with your clientele and keep them excited and inspired for their own hair journey.

Again, there is no absolute right or wrong way to use Instagram as a marketing tool. Just be your authentic self, use the tips and tricks of the pros, and have FUN!

Happy posting!

From one hairdresser to another,

Lael
